Mac and Cheese Meltdown

Mac and Cheese Meltdown

Staring at the pot,

willing it to boil.

Give me a bubble, a sizzle,

just cook.

He’s flailing on the floor,

screaming, “I want It now!”

He makes a dash,

I lunge.

Those skinny legs are fast.

He beats me to the box, noodles rain down.

Boiling water.

Turning off the stove,

I sink to the floor.

I curl up among the hard, yellow shells, and close my eyes.

His wails turn into the cry of a seagull.

Lying on the beach, I’m younger.

My name isn’t “Mama”.

My breath aligns with the tide.

Push, pull.

In, out.

I allow myself this moment,

to escape.

I open my eyes.

He is watching cartoons,

The Mac & Cheese forgotten.

Weekend Get Away

Hi everyone,

First, I want to thank everyone who participated in Sunday Social. I’ve had the best time meeting new people and catching up with old friends.

I feel very lucky because I got to read your incredible blogs from this amazing cabin in Shelton, Washington with my family.

While I was reading your incredible writing I was also taking in this view.

Here are some more pictures from our trip. We left Sunday and arrived home this afternoon.

Thank you again everyone. It means so much that you shared your beautiful blogs at my virtual party.

I hope to see you all again this Sunday.❤️

Happy FriYAY!

Miles took these from the rooftop of The Mediterranean Inn. (Where we stayed in Seattle.) The room was pretty inexpensive, the staff was great, and it was in a good location. The rooms were a bit on the small side and dated, but really not bad for the price of staying downtown.

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend full of adventure or rest (depending on what you need most)!

Night Baby

Close your eyes little one.

Shut out the world for tonight.

Tomorrow you can roar at the sunrise,

shake the trees.

Wail long and loud.

Kick those chubby legs.

Stretch your graceful, dimpled hands.

Reach high little beauty.

As for tonight, my love, sleep, just sleep.

Obligatory New Year Post

I wasn’t going to post about the new year.

I don’t have a resolution. I guess Time Square wasn’t the only thing that “dropped the ball”.

I slept while this year ticked into the next.

Is it Easter yet?

I did dust off my two children book manuscripts and began rewriting…again. That was three nights ago, so nothing to do with the new year.

Well, maybe I should have stuck with my gut and not do a “new year” post.

Oh wait, I do have something to say about the new year…

Happy New Year to YOU! Thank YOU for following. Thank YOU for reading. Thank YOU for engaging.

2017 has blessed me in so many ways. My husband has shown me grace every day. I’m so blessed to call him mine. My son began talking and it’s music to my heart. My beautiful, sweet, funny, baby girl was born this year. My friends and family continue to humble me with their love and generosity.

2017 was great and at times chaotic, like most years. The milestone years, such as my wedding, or birth of my babies are hard to see go. I’m greeting 2018, resolution-free, wrapped in a soft blanket with my Irish breakfast tea.

I’m just going to sit here and keep reading about your plans. If you wrote about the new year, please post a link in the comment thread below so I can share in your excitement.

Happy 2018.

Love,

Rachel

I hope everyone is having a cozy winter, and you are all recovering from the bustle of the holidays. Does everyone have New Year’s Eve plans? Miles and I are going to enjoy a quiet evening at home with the kids.

I have compiled a few of Miles’ photos that he has taken this winter.

My Life in Numbers

2,255 unread emails.

3 cups of tea.

4 hours of uninterrupted sleep. (A huge win.)

0 books read since August.

1 surgery. (Wisdom teeth removed.)

1 four-month old.

1 two-year-old.

1 over-worked, amazing husband.

Overall, I’m tired, happy, sad, tired, lucky, crazy, exhausted, guilt-ridden, tired, scary, blessed.

Picture Pick FriYAY: Hood Canal, Wa

Hi ladies and gents,

I hope everyone is falling cozily into the season. I’m getting tons of baby snuggles and toddler kisses… as well as meltdowns and projectile vomit. All par for the course right?

Anyway I was going through pictures and found these photos from Miles’ “dude” weekend. Miles and all of his close friends went to Hood Canal  a few weekends ago. Even though it was “guys weekend” it was all very tame (So I’ve been told). So the pictures are all “G” rated. 🙂

*Hi honey I hope you don’t mind me sharing*.

I love the PNW and sharing the beauty that surrounds us.

Happy 4th Of July

Happy 4th of July everyone! I awoke to this beautiful sight this morning:

I’m just over here waiting for our desktop to be connected again. We are in the process of reorganizing an office space, aka Miles is building and designing a desk for the new space. With me being pregnant, I’m pretty useless with home projects. So we are working at a slow pace.

I’m almost one month exactly from my due date.

I hope everyone  (in the U.S) has today off and spends time doing something fun or relaxing.

Thinking of you all from my quiet den here in Washington.

-Rachel
