The Soundtrack to My Life

Have you ever heard a song and felt each note was a significant moment in your life?

That’s how I feel about the song, “Big Country” by Béla Fleck.

We played it at our wedding and every time I hear it, it resonates within me. Like a soundtrack to my life, images flash before my eyes. Beautiful, raw, agonizing, glorious moments flood me.

Do any of you feel that way about a song? You can comment below or write your own post where you can drop a video of the song. Either tag me or link to this post.❤️

I love reading about everything. I'm not a book snob. Lately I have been "reading" a lot of picture books to my toddler and baby. In my past life before motherhood, I was a professional technical editor and writer.

  1. This almost sounds like an orchestrated version of a eponymous song by the Scottish band Big Country.

As far as me? Hah. I’ve got two songs I almost think of as the story of my life – one is the song “Mad World” originally by Tears for Fears and later covered by Gary Jules and a whole host of other artists. Though oddly enough every one of the cover versions gets the next to last lyric wrong – the next to last lyric is actually “Halargian World” – an inside joke that lead singer Curt Smith threw in impromptu on the recording session.

The other song I consider the story of my life? “Boulevard of Broken Dreams” by Green Day, because I am a loner at heart. Hah.

    1. It very well could be the same song! I’ve heard a lot of different versions but this one by Bela Fleck is my favorite!
I’ll need to heard Mad World. While I’m at it I’ll give Boulevard of Broken Dreams another listen because its been forever! Such a great song.

  2. Hey Rachel, nice country instrumental! I was going to return with another instrumental – one of my faves from Italian pianist Ludovico Einaudi – in fact, all of his pieces are quite classic. But the song that has resonated with me recently is a film score, from a Scandinavian folk singer Jose Gonzalez, called With the Ink of a Ghost. 😊

    1. I watched the video of Einaudi playing in the arctic. That was very moving. So beautiful! Thank you for sharing his name with me, I’ll definitely listen to more! The Jose Gonzalez song is so awesome! I can see why both resonate with you.❤️

  3. I immediately thought of the Scottish band, Big Country, as well! But that’s something that stands out as part of the soundtrack to my life, because they wrote the songs for an old Scottish movie called “Restless Natives,” and it was one of the first films my first husband and I watched together. For me, ones that really nestle in my consciousness these days are “Learning to Fly” by Pink Floyd and “Sing” by My Chemical Romance.
