30 Today

I turned 30 today.

I thought that this milestone birthday would have more of an emotional impact. I thought I would deeply reflect on the last decade (I’d say I glanced for a second downstream). I thought I might cry bitter sweet tears. Maybe mourn my youth a tad.

Honestly though, after going through the staggering, life altering experience of giving birth, again, turning 30 was just…. meh.

My husband and I took turns chasing our toddler and holding our newborn daughter. It was fun, it was frustrating, it was exciting, and exhausting. It was another day. With brunch. Yum.

I was humbled, as I am every year, from the out-pouring of love and we’ll wishes I received. That’s the best part of birthdays right? I feel blessed for my family and friends.

So right now, in this little moment, I’ll celebrate my age with you.

I love reading about everything. I'm not a book snob. Lately I have been "reading" a lot of picture books to my toddler and baby. In my past life before motherhood, I was a professional technical editor and writer.

  1. Thank you for sharing your perspective about turning 30. I love how you have owned your 30 and not demonized it into something negatively life altering. You are embracing 30 as another year in your life journey. It is true that the best part about birthdays is the love and care you receive from those around you. Happy Birthday! May you relish in the love and affection that surrounds you.

  2. Happy birthday!!!!!! Turning any year older is a physical fact, and a matter of perspective. I’ve decided I’m not going to focus on how old I turned this month, since I know I’ll take it the wrong way. I’d much rather try to concentrate on what my accomplishments are, like you.

  3. Oh my goodness. Another decade of life comes and goes. I turned 30 back in March of this year and honestly it wasn’t all it was cracked up to be either (though for reasons different from yours of course).

Hope all is well on your end. I shall toast you with a beer tonight and seen some good energy as you enter your next decade of life.

  4. I don’t know how I missed this post, so here’s to a belated happy birthday!!! 🍾🎂 You have achieved much in such a short space of time: a loving family, an inviting home, a happy outlook on life. It’s all that matters. And I didn’t even mention any numbers.
Funny, today we celebrated the 30th of a colleague. Another colleague baked a real fancy cake and the poor dude nearly cried.
